Thanks to this video, all I wanted to do this week while I had finals was party my face off and take whiskey shots. Krewella had a huge commercial breakthrough last year with their Play Hard EP, and has captured the hearts of the American electronic scene with their live performances. Their new album Get Wet is set to release on September 24th, and if the single “Live for the Night” is a sign of what’s to come we can expect their first full length album to packed with bass-heavy bangers. Susanne Sundfør – White Foxes Remix EP
August 5, 2013 by Tristin
Susanne Sundfør’s voice is hauntingly beautiful, lilting and quavering so that it often seems on the verge of cracking. Yet you’d be a fool to think it will ever break. The single “White Foxes” off her new album The Silicone Veil quickly reached the No. 1 spot on the charts in her home country of Norway, and it’s easy to see why. Her voice is as cold and distant as the landscape she describes, a clear icy sound that pierces your ears and leaves them aching for more. While this might seem hard to improve on, Susanne Sundfør is no stranger to remixing, and along with several others, she has put together a remix EP of “White Foxes”. Featured remix artists include Big Black Delta, Kleerup and Enochson, Maps, and Sundfør herself. So, how do they compare to the original? (more…)

Owlle – Ticky Ticky Remix EP
June 16, 2013 by Steph
I’ve found that in the last year I’ve become more and more drawn to really great electro pop. I’m not talking anything they’re playing on your local top 40 station. I mean, really great, original, unique stylings. That is everything that French electro pop diva Owlle brings to the table. Her icy etherial sound mixed with playful synth tinkering falls somewhere between a brooding Ellie Goulding and a more playful Lykki Li.
She recently released the Ticky Ticky Remix EP with remixes by Team Ghost, Grum, Strip Steve and Moonlight Matters. Of the three “Ticky Ticky” remixes, I prefer the first by Strip Steve with it’s vocal glitches. Then, the EP ends with a remix of “Disorder” which I would argue even outdoes the original.
You can listen to the whole thing here: (more…)

Big Black Delta Summer Tour
June 10, 2013 by Steph
If you haven’t seen Big Black Delta live, I say to you this: YOU. ARE. INSANE. Why the F&$# not!? But in all seriousness, Jonathan Bates and his dual drumming ladies put on one of the best live shows I’ve seen, which can only be improved in majesty by the venue (it’s a little hard to put on a great light show in a club that only holds 300). The amount of energy, throbbing, and raw sexual tension that emits from the stage during a Big Black Delta show could be bottled and sold for a pretty penny. To describe the music would be to limit its potential and that would be criminal–suffice it to say that Bates was the driving force behind alt rock band Mellowdrone and he has since been heavily involved in M83 and worked with White Sea, but that this creative venture pushes the boundaries of the extremes of each.

Young Wonder – Show Your Teeth EP
June 5, 2013 by Steph
Young Wonder’s EP Show Your Teeth released on May 6th, has been the object of my aural obsession for the last two weeks. In particular, two of the tracks have been on repeat–“Time” feat. Sacred Animals (another artist that I love) and “To You.”
First, let me ask you–how often do you fully experience music? Not just listen, but find the music so visceral that you feel it pulsating? Young Wonder has the magical ability to sync all of the senses and envelop you in the beats and sweeping melody. It’s a sensory experience. (more…)

HEAR THIS: Airhead – “Wait”
April 13, 2012 by Steph
The minimal and downbeat electronic undulating mixed with lo-fi guitar and a Karen-O like female vocalist on this track “Wait” from London’s quickly ascending star Airhead (aka Rob McAndrews) is magical. It only takes a few seconds to find yourself completely enraptured. It’s stunning. Breathtaking. Awe-inspiring, rocking you involuntarily like a puppet to its beats.
If you hear the James Blake connection, it’s no accident. They went to school together and have always written and performed together. “He’s one of my closest friends and an incredible musician to work alongside,” says McAndrews.
Wait/South Congress was released as a ten-inch single on 3/19, their first release on R&S Records. Their debut album will follow later this year and I’m anxiously waiting.

Sutja Gutierrez’s White Ponycorn In My Room EP
June 19, 2011 by Kaitlin
Spanish musician Sutja Gutierrez integrates opposing forces of dark and light, hard and soft to create his latest EP White Ponycorn In My Room. Acoustic guitar, distorted with synths and other noises, accompany his melodic voice in a simultaneously happy and uneasy way. Mellow jam, “Borderline (Hell, I’m The)” and ending lullaby “Oh, Say Good Bye (Outro)” illuminate Gutierrez’s softer side, while “I Don’t Want To Be Alone (Reprise)” and “Another Room (Called Doom)” exude the musician’s fascination with darkness and distortion. Gutierrez’s echoed lyrics and indie pop instrumentals create a sound comparable to Portishead meets Thom Yorke. The record is being sold for $1 on his bandcamp with all donations funding Gutierrez’s US tour.Category Albums | Tags: Electronic, indie pop,Spanish,Sutja Gutierrez | Comments Off on Sutja Gutierrez’s White Ponycorn In My Room EP
