  1. The Rumble – Sept 2010

    September 7, 2010 by Steph

This FREE show is going to RULE. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is amazing and I can’t wait to see them live. Meet me there for a drink and some great music.

Presented by: Future Sounds, BMI, Buzz Bands LA, and Planetary Group…

“THE RUMBLE is ushering in fall with a bit of NASCAR minus the rednecks, but fear not there will be plenty of beer. We’re stoked to have the much buzzed about DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. traveling through THE RUMBLE SEPTEMBER as their aptly titled, Horse Power EP is a layered, textual full of shimmering beat laden gems like “Nothing But Our Love.” The Detroit based duo of Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott, have long been on the scene, with a Moby remix under their belt, DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. are poised for the release of their full length later this year.

These guys keep racking up the love with a recent Daytrotter Session and shout outs from everyone including, CMJ, Pitchfork, Magnet Magazine and Altered Zones declaring their love for “Simple Girl,” writing, “I wonder how I’ve made it through thousands of mornings without this song.” Plus their dreamy cover of The Beach Boy’s “God Only Knows ” is bound to end up on episode of Big Love sometime soon; we just know it. This mash-up of electro beats, drum machines and elements of psych-folk, make DEJJ the preeminent soundtrack to the hazy end of summer. The band just was named as Stereogum’s ‘ ’40 Best New Bands of 2010’.

Headlining the event will be the LA-based act, THE SEA OF CORTEZ. The band has already had some pretty impressive support from everyone from Stereogum to KCRW from just the single, “The Shores”, and they just announced that will be coming out with an EP on September 28th called”Testing The Waters”. The EP will feature their first single ‘The Shores’ along with 4 other tracks. Their full length album “Make It Sound” will come out in early 2011.

The Shores pretty much throws a kitchen sink of influences such as the Beatles, Beach Boys and Neil Young into a lovely shuffle of a song – Nic Harcourt (KCRW)

Smack dabble in the middle position is LA’s SLANG CHICKENS. This band grabbed our attention with their single, “Tropics” and because they sent us the coolest packaged vinyl LP in some time- in burlap. We’ve been stalking the Chickens for some time, finally put a cage around them. Somehow they have a southern fried sound while passing their days away in Southern California.

Slang Chickens opened, and were perhaps the most exiting band of the night….They play a brutal mash of surf punk and rockabilly with a hint of sludge metal, the sound crisp and bass thumpy and unlike anything I’ve heard going lately. – LA Weekly”

  6. WTF, Weezer?

    August 10, 2010 by Steph

Hurley to be released September 14, 2010

About this new album cover, frontman Rives Cuomo explains to Pitchfork, “We just wanted to use that picture of Jorge Garcia’s face on the cover. It’s such an amazing album cover, and we didn’t want to have any other words on it, so we just figured everyone was going to call it Hurley, so that’s what we call it.”

    Ok….

  7. New Album from Chiodos – October 5th

    August 10, 2010 by Steph

    Chiodos-IlluminaudioIlluminaudio

    Available October 5th

This will be the first Chiodos record with the new vocalist Brandon Bolmer(formerly of Yesterday’s Rising) and drummer Tanner Wayne (formerly of Underminded and Scary Kids Scaring Kids). It’ll be interesting seeing the fan reaction to the replacement of such distinct vocals.

Bradley Bell (keys) responds to this potential criticism, “Even if the lineup had stayed the same, I feel that the direction of sound would’ve turned out similar. We don’t feel like our vision was lost or compromised in any way throughout the writing process.”

Bell adds, “We put an incredible amount of thought, time, sacrifice, emotion, and stress into the process of making this beautiful monster. I believe all of that will shine through the music as soon as people press play.”

Illuminaudio was written over the course of 15 months and was recorded just outside of New York City at The Machine Shop, with producer Machine [Lamb Of God, Every Time I Die, Cobra Starship].

Pre-order packages for the album will be available on MerchNow next week. The complete tracklisting for Illuminaudio can be seen below:

    1. Illuminaudio
    2. Caves
    3. Love Is A Cat From Hell
    4. Modern Wolf Hair
    5. Notes In Constellations
    6. Scaremonger
    7. His Story Repeats Itself
    8. Let Us Burn One
    9. Hey Zeus! The Dungeon
    10. Stratovolcano Mouth
    11. Those Who Slay Together, Stay Together
    12. Closed Eyes Still Look Forward

  8. The Posies’ single from upcoming release Blood/Candy

    August 7, 2010 by Steph

The Posies, a 23-year-old Seattle-based rock band, are accompanied by a “star-studded cast” on their upcoming record Blood/Candy to be released on September 28th on Ryko. The new single “Licenses to Hide” features the vocals of Lisa Lobsinger (lead singer of Reverie Sound Revue and vocalist of Broken Social Scene) and other guest vocalists include Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) on “The Glitter Prize,” Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers) on “Plastic Paperbacks,”  and Paco Loco (Australian Blonde and Paco Loco Trio) on “Enewetak.” You will also hear strings on the record, which are arranged by the Grammy-nominated Phil Peterson, who has played on recent albums for Owl City and Nada Surf.

Of the single “Licenses to Hide,” Posies’ principles Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow said this in a recent Spin interview:

Ayer: ” ‘License to Hide’ is one of two songs on the record that I think is so completely out of left field for us. I always thought that the Posies should have something that resembles a showtune in our canon… On a certain day, it could be in one of the Muppet movies — and I mean that in a good way.”

Stringfellow: “It’s just about shedding the inhibitions to be yourself. So many people present themselves as the people they want to be seen as — and there’s something noble about that. As you grow older, you might earn the right to be that person, having tried other things, and maybe that person isn’t so bad.”

Beginning on the US album release date (Sept. 28), the band will launch their European tour, starting in Spain. Tour dates are yet to be released.

  9. The Lonely Forest to release an EP

    August 7, 2010 by Steph

    The Lonely Forest EP

Hey! I was just listening to them!

That’s what I said when I received a press release today for The Lonely Forest’s digital-only EP to be released on Chris Walla’s (of Death Cab for Cutie) label Trans on September 14th. This Washinton-based band has taken to writing “brilliant pop songs featuring lyrics about spiritual longing wedded to an almost prog-rock sensibility.” In essence, they’re fantastic.

The EP is just a taste of what we’ll be getting in 2011 with their upcoming full-length Arrows and if this is any indication, you can count me in for that $9.99 on opening week!
