I was pleasantly surprised by Electric Guest. Just like last year with Wye Oak I walked up having not yet heard them before thus the slate was clean. Quite simply put, Asa Taccone can sing. His range was a highlight of the performance from the falsettos featured in “This Head I Hold” to the full rich sound of “Under the Gun”.
Matt Compton and the Dahlhoff brothers kept everyone up and moving with beats and bass lines reminiscent of the 80’s. According to Asa during the first few minutes of the set, this was Electric Guest’s first festival after the recent release of their debut album Mondo. They certainly didn’t feel like a new act, as their energy, poise, and performance rivaled that of the more seasoned musicians at the festival.
