Choir of Young Believers from Denmark is sci-fi pop with 80s/Joy Division undertones. The beats are muted and the synth is prominent on “Patricia’s Thirst.” “Nye Nummer Et” takes a wholer, more cinematic tone, swelling with a violin and minor-key falsetto, bordering on Active-Child indie-opratic.

Their sophomore album Rhine Gold will be released March 20 on Ghostly International and they’ll be on a U.S. tour this Spring. See them in L.A. at The Echo on March 9th.

The Loom’s video for “For The Hooves That Gallop, and the Heels That March”

Brooklyn’s The Loom’s debut album “Teeth” is coming out November 1st on Crossbill Records and their single “For The Hooves That Gallop, and the Heels That March” has this pretty video that was premiered on NPR. It’s visually stunning and the song is an eerie folk track with a sultry sax melody, jazz percussion that moves the the falsetto group vocals like a spoon through molasses, and an accosting and powerful driving guitar. I’m not sure I entirely understand the concept for the video, but try to watch it and just absorb beauty. Tour dates for these guys below the break.

The Fling & Yukon Blonde on tour

The Fling

It seems like not that long ago I was interviewing The Fling’s frontman Dustin about heading out on a West Coast tour. The Long Beach Dangerbird band is already heading back out on the road, co-headlining with an awesome Canadian band Yukon Blonde.

The Fling’s album When The Madhouses Appear came out this past March and since then, they’ve been busy touring and being awesome.

Yukon Blonde hasn’t wasted any time either. They band spent the last year and a half on tour in North America and Europe. I caught them a few months back at The Echo, before the release of their Fire//Water EP, out on Nevado Records on October 11th.

It’s no surprise that Manchester UK’s Butcher the Bar (aka Joel Nicholson) will soon be heading out on a European tour with Death Cab for Cutie. The indie pop folk instrumentation with a whispy tenor voice and strong clucking percussion is like Death Cab crossed with Kevin Devine on Prozac. What might surprise you is that Nicholson manages not to burst out laughing in this “gravity-defying” video, where he encounters all sorts of flying objects. He does crack a smile a few times though. And so will you at this fun video.

“Alpha Street West,” is taken from Nicholson’s newest Morr Music release, For Each A Future Tethered.

Welcome back, Lydia. You tug at my heart strings and romanticize the world like high school young love. This video for “Dragging Your Feet In the Mud” does the same, chalk-full of images from Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory to PCH on the California Coast. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen these guys, but they’ll be back in LA on November 5th at The Roxy on their new release Paint It Golden.
