It’s no surprise that Manchester UK’s Butcher the Bar (aka Joel Nicholson) will soon be heading out on a European tour with Death Cab for Cutie. The indie pop folk instrumentation with a whispy tenor voice and strong clucking percussion is like Death Cab crossed with Kevin Devine on Prozac. What might surprise you is that Nicholson manages not to burst out laughing in this “gravity-defying” video, where he encounters all sorts of flying objects. He does crack a smile a few times though. And so will you at this fun video.
“Alpha Street West,” is taken from Nicholson’s newest Morr Music release, For Each A Future Tethered.
Welcome back, Lydia. You tug at my heart strings and romanticize the world like high school young love. This video for “Dragging Your Feet In the Mud” does the same, chalk-full of images from Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory to PCH on the California Coast. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen these guys, but they’ll be back in LA on November 5th at The Roxy on their new release Paint It Golden.
This is funkier than Jazz from Fresh Prince doing the running man. Holy Shit! This video, directed by Peter J. Brant, is the first look into Roy’s third album Le Tigre Blanc.
This video for Sweeden’s LCTRISC is so beautifully done and pretty heart-wrenching. Not to mention the song it’s shot for, ”Sunbird,” is incredibly infectious and ethereally beautiful. I dare you to only watch this once.
Brit guy/girl duo Big Deal’s debut album Lights Out was released on September 5th in the UK but likely won’t be around in the U.S. until some time next year. Until then, I’ll be scouring the interwebs for more tidbits from this band because it’s bound to be my new favorite.
Who doesn’t love some dreamy electro pop from Neon Indian?

“Capsize” from BBDLP1 out September 26 on Coming Home Records
If you live in Los Angeles and you haven’t been to one of Big Black Delta’s shows yet, you’d be making a huge mistake by missing the last night of their residency at The Satellite tonight. I’ve been to a few already and the live show is incredible–no house lights, just a multi-colored light board synchronized with the music. Jonathan Bates (aka Big Black Delta) slinking around the stage with the mic chord slung over his shoulders twiddling with his laptop and, let’s not forget, two female drummers with full kits frame either side of the stage–Mahsa Zargaran and Amy Wood. It’s 35 minutes of pure energy and once you’ve emerged from the pool of vibrations, you will be converted.
Plus, some perks of this last show: today marks the release of Big Black Delta’s debut LP BBDLP1. They’ll be selling their limited-edition colored vinyl tonight, which I think is pretty damn sexy.
Also, highly-buzzed band Letting Up Despite Great Faults will be playing just before BBD so get there early!

Wow, I’ve been posting a lot of music videos recently! I’m a little late on this Summer Camp video (an late in blog terms is just about a week) but I snagged this from GorillavsBear.net. It’s a really lovely video for this track and band that I already love.
Ahh to be a rock star in Los Angeles. It must be so lonely and sad and beautiful, don’t you think? Well, that’s what you’d get from this new video from alt-country/indie rock band Dawes.
Mark your calendar because they will actually Be in Los Angeles on November 17th at The Music Box (Buy Tickets).
