I Adore Savoir Adore

April 23, 2011 by Steph

A friend at Popmatters recently described one of his favorite bands as “beautifully noisy pop” and it really struck a chord with me (pun intended). That perfectly describes music I love. Beautiful melodies and essentially pop music, but just dirty enough to be interesting and provoke  repeat listens.

Brooklyn’s Savoir Adore gets slipped into this genre, along with Metric, The New Pornographers, and Superchunk. Although they have a bit more sheen than some (their bio calls them “dream pop” and “adventure wave”), Paul Hammer’s and Deidre Muro’s soft vocals, their noisy guitar riffs, and melodic tinkering certainly gives the ear enough to play with. Their album In the Wooded Forrest was released on Cantora Records in July 2009. They’re making new music as we speak and hopefully will have a sophomore release by the end of the year.

Neon Gold premiered their track “Sparrows” at the end of March and it’s magical.
